Harold Johnson, 97, of Madelia, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Phyllis (Jerome) Schmidt of Madelia, Marion (Darrel) Roybal of Grand Junction, Colorado; son, Eddie (Rosie) Johnson of Baxter; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Anna Hacker of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine Johnson on July 13, 2003; sisters, Florence Hardie and Ada Reinhart; brothers, Ben Johnson, Cyrus Johnson, Ralph Johnson, and George Johnson.
Harold James Johnson was born on August 5, 1916 in Rockham, South Dakota to James and Ida Bell (Byer) Johnson. He attended school in Rockham and Redfield, South Dakota. On October 21, 1940, Harold was united in marriage to Catherine Sellner in Sleepy Eye. He held various general labor jobs throughout his life. After twenty years, Harold retired from working maintenance with the State Department of Transportation. Harold enjoyed bowling and watching television. In his earlier years, Harold and Kate enjoyed taking vacations out west. He loved being with his family. Harold was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
