Odelia B. Hillesheim

SPRINGFIELD - Odelia B. Hillesheim, age 92, of Springfield, MN died on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 to 7 pm and will continue on Monday from 7:30 until 10 am at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a Parish Prayer Service at 6:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, on Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:30 am.

The clergy will be Fr. Andy Michels.

Interment will be at the Japanese Martyrs Catholic Cemetery, in Leavenworth, MN.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, MN.

Odelia was born on April 16, 1921 in Brown County, MN to Joseph & Leona (Ludewig) Huiras. She grew up and attended country school. Odelia married Raymond Hillesheim on September 24, 1941 at the Church of the Japanese Martyrs in Leavenworth. Ray and Odelia lived on the family farm near Leavenworth where she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Japanese Martyrs and CCW. Her faith was very important to her and she was never without her rosary. Odelia lovingly grew and arranged flowers for the church altar for many years. She enjoyed her large flower and vegetable gardens. Odelia loved to make rugs and to sew. Many family members enjoyed her beautifully created quilts. She was most comfortable in her beloved kitchen that Ray designed just for her. She could put together a delicious meal for her large family almost effortlessly.

She is survived by her children, Marion (Dwight) McKenzie of Princeton, Leonard of Sleepy Eye, Barbara (Richard) Filzen of New Ulm, Daniel of Springfield, Bernadette (Thomas) Kachelmeier of Sleepy Eye, Anthony of Springfield, 13 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sisters, Eunice (Marvin) Frericks of New Ulm, Jeanette (Ron) Zollner of Acton, MA, Mary Ann Huiras of San Diego, CA, sisters-in-law, Joleen Huiras of Sleepy Eye and Lynette Huiras of New Ulm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond, sons, Fr. Gerald A. & Marvin, great-granddaughter, Savannah, 4 sisters and 7 brothers.
