Ina (Isakson) Samuelson, 96, of Mankato, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
She was born in Vastmanland, Sweden, on March 24, 1917, and came to America at age 6, an orphan, to Boone, Iowa, and an aunt and uncle.
She graduated third in her class from Boone High School and became an RN through Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis.
She married Irving Samuelson on September 11, 1943, in Boone, Iowa. They lived in Wyoming and Texas where Irving looked for oil and Ina worked as a nurse in an Italian Prisoner of War Camp. They also lived in New York and Iowa. In Storm Lake, Iowa, Ina helped form St. Mark's Lutheran Church. In Mankato Ina is a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was active in the GLCW, Garden Club, and Swedish Club.
In the 1980s she learned of a half-brother, Harald Olsson, in Sweden and visited back and forth.
She is survived by her daughters, Ingrid (Lowell) Liedman and Sara Samuelson; and guardian angels, Barb and Denny Meier.
Visitation at 9 a.m. with funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, at Grace Lutheran Church Chapel. Interment at Lost Grove Cemetery in Iowa.
