FAIRFAX-Winnel Grunke, 83, of Fairfax died Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Fairfax Community Home.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Friday, March 21, at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with burial in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Fairfax Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, March 20, at St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Arrangements are with the Hauser-Hantge Chapel in Fairfax.

Memorials preferred to WELS Prison Ministries, MVL or Prairie Lutheran School.

Winnel Ernest Grunke was born on August 31, 1930, in New Ulm, Minn., to Ernest and Erma (Hindermann) Grunke.

He served in the U.S. Army from May 21, 1953, to Feb. 28, 1955, and served in the Secret Service during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal.

He is survived by his children, Karlton Grunke of Fairfax, Timothy Grunke of Fairfax, Joel Grunke of Fairfax, Daniel Grunke of Fairfax, and Sarah Juergens of Bison, SD; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Richgruber of Rhinelander, WI.
