MANKATO - A two-vehicle, head-on collision Sunday afternoon on Highway 169 in Nicollet County near the highway's intersection with Highway 14 near Mankato claimed the lives of three people.
The drivers of both vehicles died and a five-year-old girl who was a passenger in one of vehicles also died, according to information from the State Patrol. Four other people sustained injuries.
The accident occurred at 1 p.m.
The Patrol identified the dead as Lindi L. Paul, age 36, of St. Peter, who was the driver of a 2010 Dodge Caliber; Michael Oboyle, age 65, of Marion, S.D., who was the driver of a Ford F-150; and Emma L. Paul, age 5, of St. Peter, who was a passenger in the Dodge.
Kathryn M. Oboyle, age 65, of Marion, S.D., a passenger in the Ford received a non-life threatening injury and was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Annabelle E. Oboyle, age 4, a passenger in the Ford, received a serious injury and was taken to Mayo in Rochester.
Owen M. Oboyle, age 8, a passenger in the Ford, received a non-life threatening injury and was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
No alcohol was detected in any of the people involved in the accident.
Lindi Paul was not wearing a seat belt, but an airbag deployed. All other persons were wearing seat belts, and an airbag deployed for Michael Oboyle.
According to the State Patrol, the Dodge was southbound on Highway 169 when the driver lost control, crossed the center median and collided head-on with the Ford in the northbound lane. Both vehicles were totaled.
