Arnold “Arnie” Roepke

LAFAYETTE - Arnold "Arnie" Roepke, 79, of Lafayette, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, March 13, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Fernando with Pastor Aaron Albrecht officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH Chapel in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Thursday.

Arnie is survived by his daughter, Charlene (Steve) Castle of Redwood Falls; sons, Victor Roepke, Brian Roepke and his fiance, Michelle Norman, all of New Ulm; grandchildren, Lisa (Jared) Besser, Tiffany (Matthew) Smetak, Camron Castle; a great-grandson, Jackson Besser; and by his brothers, Maynard (Doris) Roepke of Buffalo, Melvin (Adeline) Roepke of Hutchinson, Virgil (Joanie) Roepke of Glencoe, Glen (Sharon) Roepke of Savage, Loren (Karen) Roepke of Cokato.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edwin in infancy; and a by his brother Wilmer Roepke.

Arnold Edwin Roepke was born May 2, 1934 in Stewart to Benjamin and Lillian (Shirro) Roepke. He attended country school in rural Stewart. Arnie served in the United States Army Reserve. He was united in marriage to Lois Rubischko on Aug. 26, 1961. Arnie was employed at New Ulm Manufacturing, Raygo, New Ulm Concrete and Cook's Sanitation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing. old cars and tractors, old time music, animals and his dog Pugsly.
