Bernard "Bernie" Allen Hoppe, age 85, formerly of New Ulm, passed away Feb. 19, 2014, in Columbus, Ohio.
Retired after a long management career with JC Penney, Bernard was the manager of JC Penney's store in downtown New Ulm from 1969-1976. Three of his children and his son-in-law graduated from New Ulm High School. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Anne (McPhail) Hoppe. Survived by six children, Deborah (Ltc. Gene) Dickey of Winston-Salem, N.C., Ann (Andrew) Kleppe of Wausau, Wis., Col. John Hope of Alexandria, Va., Mary (Geord) Douglas of Bexley, Ohio, Jean Thomas of Perkasie, Penn., and Jane (Douglas) Henderson of Upper St. Claire, Penn. Twelve grandchildren also survive: Maj. Jason Dickey, Matthew Dickey, Christopher Dickey, Emily Rajek, Andrew Rajek, Ashleigh Hope, Zachary Hope, Abigail Hope, Mackenzie Douglas, Ryder Douglas, Bobby Henderson and Stephanie Henderson, as well as sisters, Judy Turney, Clara Jean Schacher, Barbara Babler, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
