NEW ULM - Dorothy Plagge, 97, of New Ulm, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Thursday. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements. To leave an online condolence or to sign the guest book for her family go to

Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Steinbach, Marie Carlson; and brothers, Henry Plagge, Walter Plagge.

Dorothy Esther Plagge was born on December 1, 1916 in Bernadotte Township, Nicollet County to Albert and Louise (Renner) Plagge. She attended country school in Lafayette Township, then attended DMLC, graduating from high school in 1935 and college in 1938. Dorothy taught school for seven years at St. John's Lutheran School in Good Thunder, and three years at Trinity Lutheran School in Waconia. She then began working as a medical secretary at Union Hospital in New Ulm from 1958-1966. In 1966, Dorothy began working full time at the New Ulm Clinic and part time at the hospital until 1974. She then worked full time at the hospital until 1981. Dorothy enjoyed listening to old country music, gardening, canning, traveling, and especially volunteering with the church and the Treasure House. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, the church Ladies Aid, St. Paul's Choir, and LWMS.
