Rex E. Hendley, 91, of New Ulm, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.a
Funeral service will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, at the Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Pastor Ric Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron Cemetery following the lunch.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and continue for one hour prior to services at the church. To leave an online condolence or to sign the guestbook for his family go to www.mvfh.org.
Rex is survived by his son, Ron (Debra) Hendley of Mound; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Domas of Victoria; nephew, Kenny Kohn of New Ulm; and niece, Deb Jones of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol (Kohn) Hendley on July 27, 2013; daughter, Donna Harrel; sister, Marilyn Blank; brothers-in-law, George Domas, Willard Blank, Richard Kohn; and sister-in-law, Margot Kohn.
Rex Edward Hendley was born on January 25, 1923 in Mankato to Edward and Hazel (Gump) Hendley. He attended Nicollet High School as a part of the class of 1940. He was united in marriage to Carol Kohn on December 5, 1954 at her parents' home. They farmed in Nicollet County until moving to New Ulm in the 1960s. Rex worked for Warta Water in New Ulm and, from 1965 until retirement in 1988, Rex was employed with 3M. During his time at 3M, he achieved the perfect attendance award for 19 years. Rex enjoyed volunteering, especially at the New Ulm Food Shelf, the Harkin Store, Meals-on-Wheels and was active in the New Ulm Boy Scouts for a number of years. Rex loved to farm, be outdoors, and was a great storyteller. He was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church.
