NEW ULM - Brown County commissioners will receive a 2013-2014 Brown County Probation Department Plan on Tuesday.
Probation Director Les Schultz wrote in his report that for the second straight year, probation supervises what the court believes to be low-risk offenders that were assigned to Court Administration to review in the past, according to the Request for Board Action (RBA).
"Of greatest concern is the dramatic increase in out-of-home placements for two years in a row," Schultz wrote. "In addition, we are keeping an eye on the drop in adolescents arrested in 2013. ... I believe you will be impressed with the professionalism and dedication that comes from this department."
Out-of-home placements cost Brown County $498,781 in 2013 and $406,814 in 2012, according to the report. Adult probation offenders climbed from 753 in 2009 to 776 in 2010, 797 in 2011, 968 in 2012 and 1,107 in 2013.
Adult offenders with successful probation continued to improve since 2009 with 81 percent in 2009, 89 percent in 2010, 96 percent in 2011, 97 percent in 2012 and 98 percent in 2013, according to the report.
