MINNEAPOLIS - Alexandria's McKenzi Revering had had enough.

With 2:40 left in the third overtime, Revering got the puck and caught New Ulm on a line change. She took the puck all the way to the net and pushed it five-hole past New Ulm goalie Bailey Landreville, clinching a 4-3 triple-overtime girl's hockey win for Alexandria at Ridder Arena.

The loss at Ridder Arena on Thursday ended New Ulm's season at 18-9. The Cardinals will play for fifth place at 10 a.m. Saturday.

New Ulm's Dani Weiss (17) tries to get the puck away from Alexandria's Taylor Ellingson (24) during the third period of the Eagles’ triple-overtime loss to Alexandria in consolation play Thursday at Ridder Arena on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.

"I was so happy, we worked so hard, three overtimes, that's a lot," Revering said. "I had a chance to score earlier in the game and I didn't score and I just said I have to score."

Indeed.

"We had the 'D' rushing up and during the line change, we struggled to get back," New Ulm coach Kristin Faber said. "They just went five-hole and it went in. That was a long battle. The girls had fun and they were working hard and I know their legs were tired. From a coaching perspective, that was a fun game to be involved in."

New Ulm's Bailey Landreville was on top of her game Thursday morning. She made 39 saves, keeping the Eagles in the contest all game long.

"Today she was in her zone," Faber said. "When she's in that, she's tough to beat."

Brook Schugel, Ali Beltz and Erika Ries scored goals for New Ulm.

Schugel scored the only goal of the first period when she rifled a slap shot past Alexandria goalie Amy Jost. The goal came on the power play at 5:50 and was assisted by Lexie Weiss.

Alexandria outshot New Ulm 8-7 in the first period and evened things up in the second after Melissa Drown scored on a power play goal on an assist from Taylor Ellingson and Taylor Revering just 16 seconds into the period.

Nicole Bartels gave the Cardinals a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal.

Beltz scored her sixth goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2 when she knocked one in from in front of the net. Ries gave the Eagles the lead again when she scored at 12:53.

Landreville looked calm in the third period, making several big saves in the process. But Alexandria's Lauren Niska's short-handed goal at 11:54 tied the game at 3-3.

Ries gave the Eagles some hope late when she got loose on a breakaway, but Jost made the glove save. Fifteen seconds later, Schugel's shot was gloved by Jost to keep the game tied and it eventually went into overtime.

After regulation, there was a series of near-misses for both teams, but both goalies were able to make some big saves. In the first overtime, the Eagles caught a break after Ellingson was penalized for the Cardinals, but the Eagles weren't able to score on the power play.

In the second overtime, Brittany Denn flicked a shot at Jost, but Jost got just enough of her glove on the puck to knock it off the top of the net and behind her to keep it tied.

The Eagles graduate six seniors off this year's roster. It's going to be a tough class to replace as some of the players played in as many as five state tournaments.

"We lost a great group of girls, not only on the ice but off of it," Faber said. "They're going to be missed and leave some big shoes to fill."
