ST. PETER - Nicollet County Sheriff's Office dispatchers tracked the movement of three disoriented hikers and guided them to safety Tuesday evening in 7 Mile Creek County Park.

At 5:38 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office received a report of three lost hikers with night falling in the park. Using a 911 mapping system that enabled authorities to track their longitude and latitude from hikers' cell phones, dispatchers tracked the hikers' movement on trails and guided them to rescue personnel, acacording to a sheriff's office news release.

The hikers, Gail Looth and Elizabeth Vlasak of Montgomery and Sanah Collins of LeCenter set out on park trails earlier in the day without park maps, were located just prior to 7 p.m. Tuesday. They did not need medical attention, according to the news release.

The 628-acre park located between North Mankato and St. Peter, along U.S. Highway 169, includes 10 miles of trails.

Nicollet County deputies were assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol, North Mankato Police and the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office.
