PREP WRESTLING: M/T/ML beats Minneapolis North, falls to St. James Area

ST. JAMES - Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther defeated Minneapolis North before falling to St. James Area in the Section 4A playoff duals on Thursday night.

In the first dual, Minneapolis North forfeited all but two weight classes - 145 and 152 pounds. M/T/ML's Zack Pettersen pinned North's Aaron McLaurin in 1:06 at 145 pounds, but Jesus Lopez was defeated by North's Kenny Reed in a 13-9 decision at 152.

In the second dual, Jeremiah Colon (126 pounds), Steve Tierney (170) and Jake Denn (195) secured bonus points for the Jayhawks. Colon and Denn both won by fall, while Tierney won by 13-2 major decision.

The Saints (10-5) notched falls from Sam Kulseth (106 pounds), Mario Garcia (113), Angel Zamarripa (120), Tyler Westman (138), Kody Curry (145) and Josh Stordalen (152).

St. James Area advances to the Section 4A semifinals, where it will face No. 2-seed Sibley East. The two will face off at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Norwood-Young America, with the winner advancing to the 4 p.m. championship match.

Wabasso/RRC 37, Pipestone Area 24

LAMBERTON - Wabasso/Red Rock Central advanced in the Section 3A dual playoffs by beating Pipestone Area 37-24 on Thursday.

Top-ranked heavyweight Alex Schroepfer concluded the dual by pinned Derik Evans in 12 seconds.

Mitchell Fulton (126 pounds) and Jared Welch (195) also recorded falls for the Bobcats (20-5).

No. 2 Spencer Jenniges also recorded bonus points, but in the form of a 15-6 major decision at 120 pounds.

Wabasso/Red Rock Central will face No. 2-seeded Adrian Area in the Section 3A semifinals at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Lamberton. The winner will face the winner of the other semifinal dual between No. 1-seed Minneota/Lincoln HI and No. 4-seed Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 2:30 p.m. in Lamberton.
