February 12, 2014
The Journal

Jill Susan Stower, a non-smoker, passed away at Kansas City Hospice House on Feb. 6, 2014 after 12 very long months of valiantly and stubbornly fighting lung cancer.

She was born on Sept. 9, 1952, in St. Peter, Minn., and graduated from Nicollet High School in Nicollet, Minn. Jill received her Bachelor's Nursing Degree from Central Missouri State University (CMSU), presently known as the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., and then had a stellar career in providing excellent nursing care as an operating room nurse for several Kansas City hospitals for a collective 20 years.

Jill is survived by John, her loving and devoted husband of 20 years, and wonderful son Zac, of whom she was so proud and supportive. She is also survived by brothers Jerry (Barb) and Jack (Etta), and is preceded in death by a brother, Jim (widow - Kathy). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Jill appreciated many special friends and moments in her life, such as, cancer survivors, thank you cards, walking the beach, bike riding, nature hikes, travelling with her family, afternoon naps, red wine, crab legs, 4 p.m. in the afternoon, soccer and basketball games, Napa Valley and key lime pie (especially from Florida).

A Celebration of Life ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15, at St. Andrew Christian Church, 13890 W. 127th Street, Olathe, Kansas 66062. Due to ongoing street construction, access to the church is only available via 127th & Blackbob, then travel east on 127th. Reception will follow in Friend's Hall at the church. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society (1100 Pennsylvania Ave, Kansas City, MO 64105). Funeral arrangements are made under the direction of the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home (913/768-6777).
