NEW ULM - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team was unable to hold an early lead as St. Scholastica came from behind to win 70-67 on Saturday night.

The Knights (5-16, 4-6 UMAC) were on fire offensively for much of the first half, building a lead as high as 17 points at 30-13 while shooting 68.0 percent from the field for the half.

Todd Brassow led the Knights with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting, leading them to a 37-26 halftime edge.

The Saints (8-13, 5-5) started to chip away at the lead in the second half, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and holding the Knights to 31.4 percent shooting on the other end.

The Knights still held an eight-point lead at 58-50 with 9:15 to play, but the Saints held them without a field goal for the next 7:03 of game action. Galen Holzhueter finally ended the drought with 2:12 to play and the Knights now trailing 67-62.

Ben Edmundson and Holzhueter each made shots in the final 2 minutes to cut the deficit to two, but MLC was unable to get closer. Luke Rothe's 3-point attempt from the left wing to tie the game rimmed out.

Brassow and Holzhueter finished as the game's high scorers with 18 points, with Holzhueter also leading the Knights with nine rebounds. Rothe joined them in double figures with 14 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds.

The Knights will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, when they travel to North Central.
