COURTLAND - Sharmen Jean Christopherson, 70, of Courtland, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, January 24 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor John Gabrielson officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Shar is survived by husband, Keith "Rusty" Christopherson of Courtland; daughters, Marie Helvie of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kari (Jeff) Krosch of Kellogg; grandchildren, Emma and Victoria Helvie, Kiara, Jenny, and Lexi Krosch all at home; sisters, Carolyn (Bill) Eigenberg of Heron Lake, Clarice (Dave) Vennix of Bloomington, Leatrice Scott of Winnipeg, Canada; brothers, Richard (Marge) Ihrke of Cottage Grove, Mike (SueAnn) Ihrke of Prior Lake; and brother-in-law, John Holsen of Mankato.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, baby Sharmen; granddaughter, Brianna Krosch; and sister, Mary Holsen.

Sharmen Jean Ihrke was born on March 28, 1943 in Amo Township, Cottonwood County, to Emil and Elsie (Kuehl) Ihrke. She attended Windom High School and Mankato Beauty School. She was united in marriage to Keith Christopherson on November 30, 1963 at Amo Methodist Church in Windom. Shar was employed by the Red Owl and Cashwise, the Backerei, Courtland Mart, MBW and HSI Group Homes. She loved working with people and was actively involved in the community. Shar enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to travel with her sisters. Shar enjoyed reading and gardening. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Courtland Lions, and a former member of the Optimist Club.
