SLEEPY EYE - Sleepy Eye city employees received 3 percent pay raises for 2014 at the Tuesday city council meeting.

City Manager Mark Kober said city employees and police officer pay hikes varied slightly but averaged 3 percent raises.

Police statistics for December 2013 included 12 accidents, 21 arrests and 14 parking tickets. For 2013, police handled 71 accidents, 447 arrests and 48 parking tickets, according to reports at the city council meeting.

In other action, the council approved phase II of the Sleepy Eye Lake Trail including $917,000 in funding, $400,000 federal funds, $236,000 from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and $280,000 from the City of Sleepy Eye. Construction work on the trail's east side should take place from May through September 2014. A box culvert will be added near the trail bridge in the north end of Sportsmen's Park.
