Mark “Yogie” L. Helget

SLEEPY?EYE - Mark "Yogie" L. Helget, age 59, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at his home.

Funeral service will be held at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, on Wednesday, January 15, at 10:30 a.m. The clergy will be Msgr. Eugene Lozinski.

Interment will be at the St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and will continue on Wednesday from 7:30-10 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye, MN.

Mark was born on August 20, 1954 in Sleepy Eye, MN, the son of Delmar W. and Agnes E. (Hoffmann) Helget. While growing up on the farm he attended country school and then graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1972. During his lifetime he was employed at various jobs while always helping with farm work. Mark drove truck for Del Monte in Sleepy Eye, worked at Mathiowetz Construction and the Farmers Co-op of Sleepy Eye. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, refurbishing antique tractors and learning about the history of our country. Mark was a kind, giving and generous son, brother and uncle. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Catholic United Financial.

Survivors include his mother, Agnes Helget of Sleepy Eye; brothers and sisters, Julie (Jeff) Windschitl of Comfrey, Franny (Cindy) Helget of Sleepy Eye, Germaine (Wayne) Michels of Hanska, Geri (Steve) Vogel of Lake Crystal, Anthony Helget, Paul Helget, Medard Helget, Timothy (Connie) Helget all of Sleepy Eye, Colette (Tim) Smith of Mankato; nieces and nephews, Andrew and Adam Windschitl, Robyn Helget, Brandon and Justin Hoffmann, Jacob and Jesse Michels, Josh Vogel, Matthew, Tyler, Ashley, and Allison Helget.

He was preceded in death by his father, Delmar and infant brother, Nicholas.
