A heavily bundled-up pedestrian crosses First South in New Ulm on Monday afternoon. New Ulm temperatures fell to 22 below zero on Monday, 4 degrees short of the record minus 26 in 1988. However, dangerously low wind chills ranged from approximately 50 degrees below zero at 6 a.m. to minus 31 at 6 p.m. Today's forecast called for wind chills of minus 30 this morning and predicted a high of 2 above and a low of minus 13 tonight. The weather advisory prompted many area schools to close today, including New Ulm.
