Lucas “Luke” Evenson

GIBBON - Lucas "Luke" Evenson, 31, of Gibbon, died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Sunday, January 5, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor David Winterfeldt officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Lake Norwegian Cemetery in Severance Township.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Saturday at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Sunday.

Luke is survived by his parents, James and Joyce Evenson of Gibbon; grandmother, Alpha Evenson of Gibbon; sister, Hannah (Eric) Retzinger of Jordan; brother, Seth (Lindsey) Evenson of Minneapolis; a niece, Aleta Retzinger of Jordan; and by his cat Chloe.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Darrel and Marie Benson; and paternal grandfather Julien Evenson.

Lucas James Evenson was born February 7, 1982 in New Ulm to James and Joyce (Benson) Evenson. He attended GFW Schools and was a 2000 graduate of Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School in New Ulm. He later attended Central Lakes College in Brainerd. While in high school Luke participated in baseball and golf. Luke was an avid hunter and year round fisherman and spent many hours trapping on Clear Lake near Gibbon. He also enjoyed gardening and canning salsa which he shared with friends and neighbors. Luke shared his love of cooking with his grandma Alpha with his specialties being deviled eggs and alligator. He farmed with his dad and was the 5th generation to live on the family farm. Luke had a generous heart and kind smile and loved his family and friends.

Luke was a lifetime member, was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon.
