Chargers stop Sleepy Eye, BLHS wins

MVL 64, Sleepy Eye 55

SLEEPY EYE - Minnesota Valley Lutheran defeated Sleepy Eye in a Tomahawk Conference girl's basketball game Tuesday.

Anna Munsen led the Chargers with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and eight steals while Alexa Alfred posted 16 points and 12 rebounds. Charlotte Pfingsten also recorded 14 points

For Sleepy Eye, Claire Krumbach had 14 points, seven rebounds and seven steals and Justine Gonzalez had 12 points, five rebounds and three steals. McKayla Ahlrich also contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Josie Schieffert had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Sleepy Eye (3-4) plays Thursday against Cleveland.

BLHS 72, GFW 60

WINTHROP - Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference girl's basketball game.

Halley Busse scored 28 points for GFW.

Michelle Melsha was top scorer with 33 points and Hannah VanderVoort scored 21 points for BLHS.

GFW (1-3) will play at Belle Plaine on Thursday. BLHS (1-4) will travel to Wabasso (4-0, 6-0) on Jan. 3.

Wabasso 70, St. Mary's 45

WABASSO - Wabasso had four players in double figures to lead it past Sleepy Eye St. Mary's Tuesday night in a Tomahawk Conference girl's basketball game.

Chesley Guetter scored 23 points for the Rabbits while Morgan Frank, Becky Franta and Callie Rohlik each added 10 points. Frank also had 16 rebounds and eight steals.

Rebecca Schmidt led the Knights with 16 points and Larissa Helget scored 12 points.

Wabasso (4-0, 6-0) will play at Red Rock Central in its Holiday Tournament Friday. St. Mary's (2-5) will host Minnesota Valley Lutheran (4-1) Jan. 3.

Redwood Valley 39

MORGAN - Cedar Mountain/Comfrey hit 15-of-18 from the free-throw line as the Cougars improved to 4-1 on the season with a 42-39 nonconference girl's basketball win.

Andrea Ochs led the Cougars with 18 points and Brianna Lund had 10 points. Paige Richert finished with six rebounds.

Lauren Hansen had 14 points for the Cardinals.

CM/C plays Immanuel Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. Friday in it's own holiday tournament.
