DECORAH, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team saw its two-game win streak snapped in an 81-63 loss at Luther College Tuesday.
The two teams traded baskets for much of the first half, but the Norse would finish the half with eight unanswered points to take a 44-36 lead into the break.
That run would continue into the second half, as Luther quickly built its lead into double figures, reaching its highest point at 18 midway through the half. The Knights battled back, cutting the deficit to ten points with just over six minutes to play, but were unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led MLC with 14 points and ten rebounds. Alex Anthon, Hannah Hackbarth and Erin Schmeling each finished with nine points for the Knights.
MLC dropped to 3-5 on the season in defeat.
The Knights will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Dakota State for a game scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
Men Lose at Luther
DECORAH, Iowa - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team lost at Luther College Tuesday by the score of 83-69.
The Knights led for much of the first half thanks to a strong offensive performace. MLC shot 56.0 percent from the field for the half, with Luke Rothe leading the way with 12 points.
MLC held a 27-26 edge with five minutes to play in the half until the Norse went on a 13-6 run to take a 39-33 halftime lead.
Luther built on that lead in the second half as the MLC offense shot 40 percent after the break. The Knights cut the deficit to as low as four early in the half, but were never able to get closer.
Galen Holzhueter battled early foul trouble to lead the Knights with 20 points and eight rebounds. Rothe finished with 18 points to go with three assists and two steals, while Austin Eisenmann, Mike Paulsen and Josh Lindner each scored seven points off the bench for the Knights.
The Knights fell to 0-7 on the season with the loss. MLC returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Dakota State for a 7 p.m. game.
