NEW ULM - One night after knocking off Marshall in a key section battle, St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson defeated New Ulm 5-3 Friday night in South Central Conference boy's hockey action.

The Eagles scored the first goal of the game, but gave up five straight after that and the deficit was too much to overcome.

"They got one line that really moves their feet well, but really the story was is they had three power play goals and two breakaways," New Ulm coach Erik Setterholm said. "Take away those couple of things and it's a lot better game."

New Ulm got goals from Alex Stark, Brandon Helget and Jon Kopacek in the game. Stark's goal came at the 7:55 mark in the first period to put the Eagles up 1-0 early. After that, it was all Bulldogs.

SP/LSH scored five straight goals to run away, scoring three times in the first period and two more times in the second period to grab a 5-1 lead going into the third period.

The Eagles did manage to cut into the deficit late in the game, but at that point it was too late.

"I did think we played better in the third period, but a four-goal deficit is pretty hard to overcome," Setterholm said. "I did like the guys fight though to try to get back into the game."

New Ulm got a goal from Helget just 16 seconds into the third period, then Kopacek re-directed a shot to trim the lead to 5-3.

Stark, Judd Davis and Wyatt Peterson (2 assists) added the helpers.

Brach Kraus finished with 18 saves for the Eagles and Zeke Haugen made 24 stops for the Bulldogs.

New Ulm (1-2) gets back into action on Tuesday when the Eagles travel to Hutchinson.
