Sertoma Club seeks donations for Santa’s Closet

December 7, 2013
The Journal

NEW ULM - The New Ulm Sertoma Club is preparing for another year for Santa's Closet.

Santa's Closet is a program designed to provide toys for children who may not otherwise have a very Merry Christmas. Over the years, Santa's Closet has been made possible by the generosity of local businesses and community members. Sertoma currently provides these gifts to the Brown County Area.

Last year Santa's Closet served 605 children in the surrounding area.

Santa's Closet serves children ages 0 -14 whose names have been referred by Brown County Family Services or area churches. Parents are given the opportunity to select a toy, books, hats, and mittens for their child. Also, KNUJ and Cash Wise sponsor a Tree of Christmas Wishes, which enables people to select a bell from the tree and purchase a toy and return it unwrapped to Cash Wise.

Fund-raising letters have been sent to area organizations and businesses for their support. Additional fun-raising efforts such as Santa in the Summer and Breakfast with Santa have been done to raise money for this project..

In New Ulm, new toys may be dropped off at the following businesses: New Ulm Chamber, Runnings, Joe's Campers, Dollar General, Dairy Queen, Alliance Bank, Bank Midwest, Citizens Bank, Frandsen Bank, United Prairie Bank, and Southpoint Federal.

In Sleepy Eye, new toys may be dropped off at the following businesses: Sleepy Eye Chamber, Brown County Rea, Bic/Norwood Promotional Products, Hardees, and First Security Bank.

If individuals would like to make monetary donations, they can be sent to Sertoma Club, PO Box 692, New Ulm, MN 56073.

The collections of toys & monetary donations will be accepted through December 31sts. Distribution for the 2013 holiday season is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14.
