STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Martin Luther College women's basketball team made a run in the second half, but were unable to come all the way back from a big deficit in an 88-74 loss at Buena Vista Tuesday.
The Beavers led 48-37 at the half, and pushed their lead to 61-44 with 13:45 to play in the game before the Knights made a run.
Leah Nass paced the Knights with 18 points on 8-12 shooting from the floor. She also led the team with eight rebounds and three blocks in the contest. Hannah Hackbarth added 14 points, while Erin Schmeling provided a boost off the bench with 12 points, nine assists and five steals.
The Knights were unable to control the Beavers on the glass, as Buena Vista won the rebounding battle 54-30, but were able to hang around thanks to 29 forced turnovers.
MLC fell to 1-4 on the season with the loss. The Knights will return to action on Friday when they host Wartburg in a game scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.
MLC men lose at Buena Vista
STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Martin Luther College men's basketball team started slowly and couldn't turn things around in a 108-55 loss at Buena Vista Tuesday.
The Beavers started the game on a 19-2 run, and took a 51-22 halftime edge before running away in the second half.
The Knights were unable to slow down the BVU attack, as the Beavers shot 58 percent from the field and committed only eight turnovers in the game. The Knights struggled offensively, committing 18 turnovers and shooting 29 percent from the field.
Luke Rothe led MLC with 15 points, while Galen Holzhueter joined him in double figures with 13 points. Todd Brassow grabbed a team-best eight rebounds to go with his six points.
MLC fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss. The Knights will return to action on Friday when they host Wartburg at 7:30 p.m.
