After receiving home-hospice for several weeks, Ricki Ann (Spelbrink) Thompson passed away peacefully in her Sierra Vista, Ariz., home on Oct. 23, 2013 at the age of 68 from metastatic breast cancer.
She was born in New Ulm to Richard and Dorothy (Schleuder) Spelbrink on Aug. 17, 1945 and graduated from Mankato High School and the University of Minnesota as a Medical Technologist. Her primary interests included travel, birdwatching, hiking, reading, cooking, and listening to music.
Ricki was united in marriage to Richard (Rick) Thompson on Aug. 26, 1967 in Mankato. During their 46 years of marriage, they lived in several states - Wisconsin, Texas, Indiana, Ohio, and Missouri - prior to retiring in Sierra Vista in 2005.
Ricki is survived by her husband, Richard of Sierra Vista; son, Zachary and his wife, Colleen, of Chandler Ariz.; daughter, Zachlyn Farwig, her husband, Mike, and two grandchildren of Fenton Mo.; her father, Richard Spelbrink of Merrifield, Minn.; brother, Lee Spelbrink, his wife, Mary, of Eagan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Spelbrink. She will always be remembered as a warm, loving, and caring mother and grandmother by her family and friends.
No funeral service is planned. Ricki donated her body to research through LifeLegacy in Tucson. A musical celebration of her life is planned to be held in her Sierra Vista home in February 2014.
The family wishes that any donations made on her behalf be sent to Hospice Casa de la Paz in Sierra Vista.
