NEW ULM - Lexi Weiss scored four goals and Brook Schugel added a hat trick as the New Ulm Eagles girl's hockey team pounded LeSueur-Henderson/St. Peter 12-2 Tuesday night in South Central Conference hockey at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Dani Weiss and Brittany Denn each added two goals with Erika Ries adding a goal.

Schugel ended with three assists.

How dominant were the Eagles in the game?

New Ulm had more goals (12) then LHSP had shots on goal (9).

"We were able to use our whole bench tonight," said New Ulm coach Kristin Faber who saw her team improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the SCC. "It was good to see girls that we do not see every game get in there and see what they can do in a game situation."

But for the Bulldogs, it was a case of seeing too much of Weiss and Schugel in the game.

Each recorded two goals in the first period that were sandwiched around an Erika Ries score for a 5-1 New Ulm lead.

"We had some good teamwork and some good passing," said Weiss. "We used some plays that we normally do not get to use. And I got to play on the same line with Brook (Schugel). We have not gotten to play on the same line other years. It was fun to he on the same line with her."

Fun for the New Ulm tandem but not for Bulldog goalie Veronica Sinell.

The Eagles fired 15 shots on goal on Sinell in the first period and then upped that to 17 in the second period as Dani Weiss, Schugel, Lexi Weiss and Dani Weiss made it a 9-2 game after two periods as New Ulm held a 32-6 shot advantage and a seven-goal lead.

"Our top six forwards played well tonight," said Faber. "They all kept up their heads and were moving the puck."

Faber was also happy that her team did not get into bad habits holding a commanding lead.

"I talked to the girls about that in-between the first and second period and again between the second and third periods," she said. "I told the girls that we have to work our pace and we need to work on what we have to work on. We needed to keep our intensity in the game. Keeping our game plan going."

The Eagles tacked on three more goals in the running time third period on two goals from Brittany Denn and Lexi Weiss' fourth goal.

"We have not had this kind of a record (7-0) to start the season in a while," said Weiss. "We hope we can keep it going - we are proud of that."
