NEW ULM - The Brown County Board of Adjustment approved a Leavenworth Township variance application Wednesday and tabled another in Home Township.
The board approved a variance application of Chad and Cortnie Mathiowetz to reduce the setback from the required 20 feet to 10 feet from a soil treatment area to a structure in order to replace a non-compliant septic system in Section 29, Leavenworth Township, in the A-1 Agricultural Protection Zone.
A previous landowner removed soils from the site and compacted large areas of the site, preventing enough separation for the septic system, according to supporting information.
The board tabled a decision on an after-the-fact variance application of Greg Drexler in Section 10, Home Township. The variance was requested to allow for reducing the required front yard setback from 110 feet to 72 feet to the center line of the township road for construction of a 34x40 feet garage in the A-1 Zone.
No building permit request was made before new garage walls were erected on the property. Board member Leo Wilfahrt said he thought it was feasible to move the garage to another spot on the property, even if it means moving it on top of buried electrical lines, as supporting information indicated.
The board agreed to table to the issue until the full board and county attorney could meet to discuss the matter.
