Lorraine Mathiowetz, age 88, of Hector, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector.

Interment in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 7 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Hector, with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Church on Friday.

Lorraine Shirley (Radl) Mathiowetz was the seventh of ten children born to William S. and Anna (Reinke) Radl. She was born November 2, 1925, in Brown County, Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. She attended St. John's Lutheran School through eighth grade. She then attended Sleepy Eye High School and graduated with the class of 1943. Lorraine worked for Walgreen Company in St. Paul. She returned to Sleepy Eye and worked for Haas Bakery and Sauter Variety Store.

Lorraine married Norbert Mathiowetz on February 7, 1946, at St. Mary Rectory in Sleepy Eye. They both worked and lived in Sleepy Eye until they started farming in the Comfrey area. In the Spring of 1951, they purchased a farm in the Hector area. There they made their home and raised their three children.

Lorraine was active in school and church functions, as a room mother, Brownie leader, and Cub Scout den mother. She also served on the Hector School Board for 12 years. The family belonged to St. John's Catholic Church in Hector. Lorraine was in the adult choir, and was a member of the altar society and C.C.W. She held elected offices in both. She taught religious education classes for 20 years, including second grade, preparing students for First Reconciliation and First Communion. Lorraine was presented the Bishops Medal of Service Award in 1996.

Norbert died in November, 1997. Lorraine remained on the farm until June, 2003 when she moved to New Ulm. In November of 2012 she returned to Hector and resided at Prairie View. Among the many things she enjoyed were family get-togethers, doing crossword puzzles, reading mystery and biography books, and baking for family and friends.

On Monday, November 11, 2013, Lorraine passed away at the Renville County Hospital, having reached the age of 88 years and 9 days. Blessed be her memory.

Lorraine is survived by her children: Michele (Mick) Wendel and her husband Don of New Ulm, Charles Mathiowetz and his wife Nancy of Hector, and Amy Jo Brandel of New Ulm; grandchildren: Jennifer Brandel and friend James McNiff of Minneapolis, Andrew Mathiowetz and wife Rhea of Hector, and Sarah Mathiowetz of Fargo, North Dakota; sisters: Joyce Jobe and husband Ervin of New Ulm, and Ruth Schaefer of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Norbert; son-in-law Alan Brandel; brothers, Robert, William, Larry, and James, and by her sisters, Betty Green, Alice Ryan, and Dorothy Carstens.
