Evelyn Phyllis Peters

The Journal

May 2, 1920 October 10, 2013

When you remember Evelyn think of the dash, not the dates. The dash is the part of her life which she lived, loved and was loved by those who were fortunate enough to know her during that period of her life.

Evelyn was born to Celia (Halter) and Chester Inman on May 2, 1920 in Jeffers, MN. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith, a faith that she lived and leaned on throughout her life.

Although she loved school, family needs only made it possible for her to complete 10th grade. This was only the beginning of a lifetime of dedication to and love of family.

Her marriage to Norman Schulte was blessed with 3 children: sons, Gary and Roger and daughter, Sandra. Together she and Norman operated Schulte's Place in Comfrey until his death. Evelyn continued in the business. Following her later marriage to Cecil Peters, together they continued to run the business as Peters Bar and Grill. Following his death, Evelyn again continued in the business until her retirement in 1985. To this day, people still commented on how her delicious hamburgers were missed in Comfrey.

She continued to reside in Comfrey until moving to St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield in 2008. A testament to the exceptional care and love she received there was her reference to St. John's not as the home, but just "home" and the staff as "family".

In earlier days, she loved baking, doing the newspaper crosswords, shopping with friend Evelyn and an occasional bit of bingo at Jackpot. Later on she enjoyed taking in all the outings and activities that St. John's had to offer, particularly anything involving the daycare "grandkids." Topping her list, however, was always just being with family.

Although her life had not always been an easy one, she could always be counted on for an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. This was evident by the long list of people who called her "friend."

Evelyn is lovingly remembered and survived by: son, Gary (Palm Springs CA); daughter & son-in-law, Sandra & Robert Loft (Mankato MN), grandson & granddaughter, Kelly & Kari Loft (Marshall MN); great-grandson & great-granddaughter, Dillon & Regan Loft (Marshall MN); sisters, Gladys (Eldon) Kjos (Alexandria MN) & Lois Schulte (Fairmont MN); brothers-in-law Eugene Walters (Mapleton MN), Leroy Walters (Comfrey MN) & Bill (Penny) Walters (Wildwood OK) and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Evelyn was preceeded in death by her mother and stepfather, Celia and August Langerman; father, Chester Inman; husbands, Norman Schulte and Cecil Peters; son, Roger Schulte; and brothers, Edgar "Bud" and Myron Inman.

A memorial service will be held at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey MN at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 16th with Pastor Brian Nehring officiating.

Visitation will precede the service at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. until service. Lunch will be served immediately following the service with burial following the luncheon at Mt. Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Home of Springfield, MN or New Hope Lutheran Church of Comfrey, MN.
