GIBBON - Charles Lundgren, 80, of Gibbon died Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon with Pastor David Winterfeldt and Pastor Kimberly Buffie officiating. Burial will follow in the Augustana Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in Gibbon and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday. Charles is survived by his wife, Janet Lundgren of Gibbon; daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Michael Ferrier of Prior Lake; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Gina Lundgren of Minneapolis; granddaughters, Emily and Sarah Ferrier; grandson, Alex Lundgren; sisters, Bernice Hanson of New Brighton, Betty Schlotthauer of Arden Hills; brother-in-law, Stanley Youngblom of Lafayette; and by many nieces; and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Youngblom; brother, Lester Lundgren; and brother-in-law, John Schlotthauer.

Charles Ellsworth Lundgren was born on June 13, 1933 on the family farm in Gibbon to Albert and Frances (Anderson) Lundgren. He attended Sibley County country school in district 78 and then graduated from Gibbon High School with the class of 1951. Charles then began studying agriculture at the University of Minnesota. In 1953 he joined the United States Army, where he served until his honorable discharge in 1955. Charles then went on to further his education in agriculture at South Dakota State University. After schooling, Charles moved home and began farming with his father in Gibbon. On June 30, 1962, Charles was united in marriage to Janet Anderson at Victory Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Along with farming, Charles served on the board of directors for Palmyra Mutual Insurance in Franklin for 24 years. He was an active member of his church, serving for many years on the church council for both Clear Lake and Augustana Lutheran Church, as well as President of the cemetery board at Clear Lake. Charles enjoyed woodworking, photography, mushroom hunting, canoeing in the boundary waters and spending 17 winters in Arizona with his wife Janet. Charles especially loved animals, the land and being in the outdoors. Charles was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
