NEW ULM - Nobody wants to play outside in the rain, so this year the New Ulm Community Day of Play is moving inside, to the New Ulm Civic Center.
The event, held outside last year at Martin Luther College, was scheduled to be held there again, but with the weather forecast calling for showers and thunderstorms and highs in the 60s - not exactly good playing weather - the decision was made to move the event into the Civic Center's South Arena.
The event is organized by Martin Luther College, Hearts Beat Back: The Heart of New Ulm project, the New Ulm Medical Center and New Ulm Parks and Recreation Department. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is free and open to all.

Hula hoops were just one of the activities at last year’s Day of Play at Martin Luther College. This year’s event is being moved to the New Ulm Civic Center, 1212 N. Franklin Street, to avoid the rain that is forecast. The hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is designed to celebrate play and encourage children, from youngsters to young adults, to try a variety of play experiences.
There will be a Kids Zone for the youngest children, and a variety of other play stations for kids of all ages.
There will be some inflatable bounces houses, some "Make and Take" stations where kids can take home what they make, clowns making balloon animals, and face painting.
A variety of sponsors will provide the play stations.
