NEW ULM - John Vetter, a 1966 graduate of Holy Trinity High School, will be inducted into the Cathedral High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the New Ulm Country Club.

Vetter was a gifted athlete with an impressive list of accomplishments. During his baseball career he lettered three years as a pitcher and outfielder, had a career 10-1 record and 1.24 ERA, and was a member of the1964 CHS State Catholic Baseball Championship team. In 1965, with Jerry Gleisner, Vetter pitched a perfect game, hit the game winning double in the Section Championship game, and had the only hit in the 1-0 State Tournament semifinal loss. He was also a pitcher for the DeSmet Conference Champions in 1966.

In 1988, Vetter returned to NUACS and served as the Athletic Director for 25 years. Under his direction the following athletic accomplishments transpired: CHS teams won 39 Conference Championships, 40 Section Championships and nine State Championships. Vetter began the CHS summer camps and leagues as a way to strengthen the NUACS athletic programs and provide a source of revenue for the department. Vetter's contributions to the Athletic Department included the addition of two golf tournaments, the Cathedral Golf Classic (CGC) and the NUACS Metro Golf Outing. The CGC has raised nearly $150,000 for the CHS Athletic Department in the past 26 years. Some of his most recent efforts included leading the efforts for the installation of a wooden floor in the Holy Trinity gym and replacing the bleachers in the CHS gym.
