Cannon fire Saturday at Hermann Heights

September 6, 2013
The Journal

To the editor:

We celebrate the 125th Hermann Monument Cornerstone & 150th New Ulm Battery Anniversaries in Hermann Heights and Harman Park on Sept. 7. The Anniversary Committee would like to make area residents aware there will be about 50 New Ulm Battery cannon shots fired in Hermann Heights that day. Committee members are trying to schedule most of the shots between 10 a.m. and noon, if possible, for the Fire-a-Cannon Fundraiser (in which donors paid $100 to the fireworks fund for the chance to shoot a cannon). Monument Tours are 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience the noise may cause area residents.

Bring a lawn chair to Hermann Heights Park and enjoy 3 free afternoon concerts by: Original German Band, Concord Singers and Schell's Hobo Band. Brats, hot dogs, Schell's beverages, pop and water available in Hermann Heights. Schedule:www.HermannMonument.com Photographers see website for Photo Contest!

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and reserve your seat in Harman Park! Entertainment starts at 4:30 p.m.! Concessions available at 4 p.m.: Individual Food Items, or try our Full Meal Deal: $8 Brat, kraut, German potato salad; also selling hot dogs, Schell's beverages, pop, water and 1919 Root Beer.

"Thunder in the Valley," concert featuring the 1812 Overture with New Ulm Battery cannon fire, NU Municipal Band and MLC musicians begins at 6:30 p.m. in Harman Park. "Fantastic Fireworks over Hermann Monument" begin at 8:30 p.m. sharp. After fireworks, enjoy top-40's, rock and a light show featuring Jonah & the Whales. Party until midnight! Admission is free.
