August 16, 2013
The Journal

ST. PAUL - Several area business places are on the Minnesota Department of Revenue's (MDR) latest list of firms prohibited from purchasing liquor, beer or wine to resell.

The department updates the list monthly to reflect companies that have failed to pay taxes to the state within the past 10 or more days. Distributors are prohibited from sale or delivery to listed businesses, according to an Aug. 15 MDR news release.

New area businesses on the list as of Aug. 13, 2013 are Franklin BP, the Sand Trap at Redwood Falls Golf Club, Minnesota Tubby's Bar & Grill, Cobden; Mitierra Mexican Restaurant, St. James; Twin Town Bowl, Mankato; Seaforth Tavern, Granite Bowl, Granite Falls; and Shenaniganz, Renville.

The Crow Bar & Grill, Courtland, was posted on the MDR list on June 13, 2013 and removed from it on July 22, 2013; Dinas on Main, Lake Crystal, was posted on the list on July 13, 2013 and removed from it on July 31, 2013; and El Lori II, Hutchinson, was posted on the list on July 13, 2013 and removed from it Aug. 2, 2013.

Businesses on the list have delinquent taxes in any of the following categories: sales, withholding, partnership, S corporations and corporate. Minnesota sales and withholding taxes are "trust taxes" in that customers or employees pay these taxes with the expectation that businesses will remit them to the state on their behalf. It cannot be used by a business as additional operating capital or for any other purpose.
