The pope and homosexuality

August 15, 2013
The Journal

To the editor:

This is in response to the Aug 2, 'Changing attitudes - for some, at least' and a commenter.

The editorial said: "Pope Francis on the issue of homosexual priests (said), "Who am I to judge?"

"We shouldn't marginalize people for this. They must be integrated into society."

While the pope's comments signaled no shift in the Church's stance of "hate the sin, love the sinner," it was a much more inclusive statement than past pontiffs have made."

But here is how he was quoted by the Vatican Information Service: "I think that when we encounter a gay person, we must distinguish the fact of being gay from that of forming part of a lobby, as not all lobbies are good. That is the problem. But if a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?"

The Church teaches that homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered, therefore person of "Good will" would not lobby for legitimizing the acts, be they in the context of marriage, priesthood or single life.

It appears the editorial misquoted the Pope and spun it to say: "it was a much more inclusive statement than past pontiffs have made."

The Aug 3, 11:05 a.m. commenter says: "I hope a lot recently married gay people will consider adopting children. We can always use more good parents."

1. Mark Regnerus of the University of Texas produced a study that compared children raised by their married biological parents, with children of homosexual parents. He found that children of homosexuals are much more likely to have received welfare (intact married biological parents 17 percent, lesbian mothers 69 percent, gay fathers 57 percent); have lower educational attainment; report less safety and security in their family of origin; report more ongoing "negative impact" from their family of origin; are more likely to suffer from depression; and have been arrested more often.

2. Recently, a homosexual couple in L.A. have been convicted for making child porn videos with 'adopted son' from Russia whom they bought for $8,000 in 2005. Investigators say Newton and Truong flew the boy between Australia, the United States, France and Germany to record at least eight other pedophiles sexually abuse him.

3. George Orwell wrote, "We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men." The idea of a same sex marriage even makes a mockery of the law of nature; you don't see members of the animal kingdom mating with their species of the same sex and adopting a life-long habit of not mating with the opposite sex.
