Biker travels 100 miles in one day

July 3, 2013
The Journal

NEW ULM - Gerold August Olson, of New Ulm, rode his bicycle just more than 100 miles Tuesday.

"I did it to prove a 71-year-old guy could go 100 miles in a day" said Olson. "I didn't have a plan, but I bought a pop in each town" said Olson.

His journey began in New Ulm and then he biked to Klossner, Lafayette, Winthrop, Gibbon, Fairfax and back through the same towns to New Ulm. When he returned to New Ulm he noticed he was just short of 100 miles so he rode to Courtland and back. That final leg of his adventure put his odometer at 101.98 miles for the trip. Since 2006 Olson says he has ridden 17,000 miles, mostly in the local area.
