Michael Skillings took the loss for New Ulm. He went four innings, allowed five runs and seven hits.
The teams were scoreless until the fourth inning when Sleepy Eye broke the game open with five runs. Austin Fischer had a two-run single and Carter Krzmarzick followed with an RBI single. Berkner had an RBI double later in the inning.
Sleepy Eye added to the lead in the seventh, the big hits coming off the bats of Kopacek (two-run double) and Jay Helget (two-run single).
"I guess I was proud of my team with the number of zeroes we put up, holding them to no runs [for five of the innings]," Silver coach Bob Skillings said. "They had a couple innings where they put up no runs but otherwise I thought my players did an excellent job tonight."
Both teams resume action today.
