SEARLES - The Prior Lake Mariners pounded out 12 hits on their way to defeating the Searles Bullheads by a score of 10-1 in 35 and over baseball action on Sunday afternoon.
Prior Lake scored five runs off of starter Brad Mathiowetz in the top of the first on two walks and five hits. Kevin Hulke relieved Mathiowetz in the second and gave up three more runs on four Mariner hits. Hulke held the visitors scoreless for the next three innings but then Prior Lake added two more runs in the 6th. Ryan Bode pitched the last inning for Searles.
Meanwhile, the Bullheads scored their loan run in the third inning. John Giefer walked, moved to third on a double by Corey Schaefer, and then scored on Craig Schmitz's RBI ground out to the second baseman.
Searles could only muster three hits for the game, two by Schaefer, and a double by Ryan Bode in the fifth inning. Joe Schultz pitched all seven innings for Prior Lake, striking out 5, walking 4, and hitting one batter.
The Searles Bullheads (1-5) are back in action on Saturday with an 8 p.m. home game against New Hope. The game will follow the Searles baseball promotional Pork Chop Feed, scheduled from 4-7 p.m. at the Searles Ball Park. The Bullheads will also be at home against Edina on Sunday with a 2 p.m. start time.
