Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there who are waking up this morning to the adulation of their wives and children. It's your day, you deserve it.
Fathers should be celebrated, especially the ones who have embraced the important job of fatherhood, which is far more than just biological fathering. We have no shortage of men in this country who are interested only in the biological act that leads to procreation. All too often they have their fun and move on, leaving the job of raising their offspring to the women, or to the government. Their children are lucky to get a little acknowledgement once in a while, such as a card on their birthday.
You don't need studies to tell you that children raised in families with two loving parents who are active and involved in their lives are going to have a better chance at happiness and success in life. We know there are many reasons some fathers can't be there - death, divorce, military duties and assignments. We know there are a lot of people who fill in for those who are missing - grandparents, uncles, heroic single moms, volunteer Big Brothers.
Let us celebrate them all today, those who embrace the responsibilities of raising children, of being family men, and those who fill in when needed. You all make this a better country, and a better world. We could use a lot more like you.
Happy Father's Day.
