Anna Mohr winds up to pitch in the Section 2A final. Mohr pitched the end of the first game and all of the second game as the Greyhounds beat Mankato Loyola twice for the Section 2A title.

CHS 3, Loyola 2

Game one was delayed for an hour by a glorious five minutes downpour of rain, which soaked the fields. After the delay, the game started off with a four-inning pitching duel. In the fourth, Greyhounds Abby Hauser got on base with a walk and advanced to second on a hit by Anne Schwarz, then took third on a passed ball, Leah Krzmarzick followed with a single to get the RBI. Mankato Loyola answered in the bottom of the fourth with a double and a stolen base to put them in scoring position as well. An error on Cathedral's center fielder allowed that runner to later score to put Loyola up 2-1.

Cathedral answered with two runs in the top of the sixth, and took the win by an easy 1-2-3 inning in the seventh to win game one 3-2.

CHS?6, Loyola 4

In game two action, Loyola started hitting early on getting three runs in the first, putting Loyola up 3-0. Cathedral didn't answer until the second inning when Schwarz hit a bomb over the left field fence for a two-run homer to start their comeback. Schwarz also hits a triple next at bat to tie it up at 4-4. A couple more big hits by Jenessa Rothmeier and Paige Pautzke would allow Greyhounds to take the lead and keep it with a final score New Ulm Cathedral 6 over Mankato Loyola 4.

New Ulm Cathedral will be making their State Tournament appearance at Caswell Park, North Mankato on June 6. "Making an appearance at State is just special... just special, and being able to bring two seniors to State... It's just a great feeling," commented Head Coach Bob Mertz.
