Springfield defeats Waseca

Springfield 7, Waseca 4

WASECA - Springfield defeated Waseca in a non-conference baseball game Thursday.

Jordan Vogel earned the win, pitching five innings for Springfield. Cooper Scheffler went 4-for-4 with two RBI. Zach Mickelson went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Springfield will travel to Milroy to play Adrian in a Section 3A game Saturday.

Nicollet 3, C/CM 1

NICOLLET - Nicollet's Matt Christenson pitched seven strong innings to take the win against Comfrey/Cedar Mountain Thursday in the first round of Section 2A playoffs.

Christenson gave up four hits, four walks, struck out six and gave up one run.

Colin Bloemke went 1-for-2 with one RBI and Matt Johnson was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Nicollet (6-6) will play at Mueller Park in New Ulm Saturday against New Ulm Cathedral.

New Ulm Cathedral 11, Loyola 10, 8 innings

MANKATO - Nate Palmer drove in the go-ahead run as New Ulm Cathedral defeated Mankato Loyola in a nonconference game on Thursday.

Josh Kienlen earned the win for the Greyhounds. He went 2 1/3 innings, allowed two runs and three hits. He walked one and struck out one.

Palmer was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Brandon Beranek was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jake Stadick was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kienlen was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Collin Helget had a triple and two runs scored and Jack Schwartz had a double and two RBIs.

Cathedral plays Nicollet in the Section 2A, North Subsection playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday.
