Knights defeat Cathedral

St. Mary's 5, Cathedral 1

SLEEPY EYE - Sean Mathiowetz pitched a complete game to lead Sleepy Eye St. Mary's past New Ulm Cathedral in a Tomahawk Conference baseball game Monday.

Mathiowetz gave up two hits, one run, walked three batters and he struck out six.

Mitch Neid went 2-for-3 and had one RBI for the Knights.

Jake Stadick was 2-for-3 for Cathedral.

The second game was suspended in the third inning due to rain with St. Mary's ahead 4-0. The game may either be made up today or Wednesday, depending upon the weather.

St. Mary's (16-1, 7-1) travels to play Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Thursday.

Cathedral (10-4, 9-3) plays at Mankato Loyola Thursday.

Springfield 10,

Wabasso 0 (6 innings)

WABASSO - Springfield clinched at least a tie for the Tomahawk Conference championship in baseball with a win over Wabasso Monday.

Springfield and Sleepy Eye St. Mary's are currently tied for the conference title.

Isaac Kirschstein was the winning pitcher, going the distance. He struck out seven batters and gave up three hits.

Zach Mickelson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI for Springfield.

Josh Altermatt was the losing pitcher. Caleb Salfer had a double for Wabasso.

Springfield (13-3) hosts Red Rock Central tonight.

Nicollet 10, Randolph 6

RANDOLPH - Nicollet defeated Randolph in a Valley Conference game on Monday.

Jay Hendrycks earned the win for the Raiders. He struck out six and allowed six hits and three runs.

Matt Fischer was 3-for-3 with a double and Tanner Elliott was 2-for-3 for the Raiders.

Nicollet (5-6) opens Section 2A playoff action on Thursday when it hosts Comfrey/Cedar Mountain. The Raiders are seeded seventh and the Rockets are seeded 10th. The winner is at New Ulm Cathedral on Saturday.
