Douglas “Doug” Ladd

NEW ULM - Douglas "Doug" Ladd, 78, of New Ulm, lost his battle with cancer on April 23, 2013 while sleeping peacefully at his son's house in Austin, MN.

"Celebration of Life" memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 3 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Rev. Josh Toufar and Rev. Milton Ost officiating. Interment will take place at Richland Center Cemetery, Richland Center, WI at a later date. Lunch to follow service in New Ulm.

Visitation will be at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Thursday, May 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Douglas "Doug" Ladd, the son of Ariel Norman and Veda Jane (Carswell) Ladd was born June 23, 1934 in Richland Center, WI. He was a graduate of Lone Rock High School and the University of Wisconsin (Madison Campus) with a BS in animal husbandry. Douglas was united in marriage to Winifred Adele Lehr June 26, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Dodgeville, WI. They made their home in Madison, WI; Le Sueur, MN; Jamestown, ND and then settled in New Ulm in 1979. Doug worked at Red Dot Research Farms, Rhinelander, WI; Mankato PCA, Mankato, MN; Moorman Manufacturing, Le Sueur, MN; E. G. Oswald Co., New Ulm, MN; Kmart, New Ulm, MN; and Shelter Products, New Ulm, MN. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the New Ulm Optimist Club.

Past volunteer positions were: Jamestown Traveling Salesman's Club (various positions held); Our Savior's Lutheran Church, New Ulm, Church Council President and member of various committees; Optimist Club International, New Ulm Chapter, charter member and held numerous positions. Accomplishments and awards included Brown County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award, 2012; New Ulm Business and Retail Association Volunteer of the Year, 2011; and Optimist International awards and accomplishments too numerous to list. His interests were hunting, fishing, golf, genealogy, horses, volunteering, making cheese curds and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his son Mark (Nanette) Ladd of Austin; daughter Karen (Denis) Wilhelmi of Morgan; grandchildren, Justin Gaffer, Samantha Ladd, Derek Wilhelmi, Elizabeth Leger, Danielle Ladd, David Wilhelmi, Jeremiah Birth, Amanda Evans, Zachery Wilhelmi, Rebecca Evans, Angelica Wilhelmi, Michael Ladd; great-granddaughter, Alea Birth; sisters and brothers, Jane (Richard) Walters of Columbia, SC; Malcom "Mickey" (Ardell) Ladd of Gotham, WI; Allan Ladd of Columbia, SC; Judy (Peter) Skelbred of Anoka, MN; Laura (Rob) Donner of Platteville, WI; Alice (Gene) Bailey of Stoughton, WI; sister-in-law, Laura Kuball of Baraboo, WI; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceeded in death by his wife Winifred; brothers-in-law, Harker Lehr and James Lehr; and sister-in-law, Joan (Lehr) Shelton.

The family prefers memorials.
