Clinic project to start Monday

April 12, 2013

NEW ULM - The New Ulm Medical Center's Clinic Expansion project will start on Monday, barring any more heavy snowfalls.

Phase 1 of the $5.3 million expansion project was supposed to start this morning, but the unusual April snowstorm has pushed the starting date to Monday, said Jeff Messenger, director of Clinic Operations.

On Monday, workers will begin blocking off the Phase 1 Construction area. This is an area just to the east of where the new clinic addition will go. Workers will be rerouting utilities and preparing the area for the start of the second phase of construction.

Visitors to the New Ulm Medical Center Clinic, starting Monday, will need to enter the area from the 8th North Street entrance in to the clinic parking lot, and follow the green line to enter and exit.

Phase 1 is expected to last 4 to 6 weeks. By Thursday, the access road between the hospital and the clinic will be blocked for a few days.

The map included here shows the area of the phase 1 construction, and the route traffic should take for the clinic. Visitors to the clinic should use the 8th North Street entrance to the clinic parking lot, and follow the green line to get in and out of the parking lot.

Additional parking has been set up near the clinic to allow employees to park farther away, leaving more spaces for patients closer to the building.

The addition will increase the existing clinic by 12,000 square feet. It includes 28 additional exam rooms, a retail pharmacy with drive-up window, and retail medical space for items such as canes, crutches and wheelchairs.
