COMFREY - Howard Eugene Johnson, age 82, of Comfrey died on April 5, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Springfield.

Visitation will be on Monday, April 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey Chapel and will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur.

Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur.

Interment will be at the New Hope Faith Lutheran Cemetery in Comfrey. Military Honors will be performed by the Albin Johnson American Legion Post 244 of Comfrey.

Howard Eugene Johnson was born on May 21, 1930 in Mountain Lake, the son of Vivien K. and Olga (Paulson) Johnson. He graduated from Comfrey Public High School and attended the University of Minnesota - Agriculture School. He served in the United States Army in Germany from February 1953 until his honorable discharge in January 1955. He was united in marriage to Connie Hoverman on August 7, 1965 at the Winger Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winger. He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur, Albin Johnson Legion Post #244, and a past member of the Comfrey Lions. He served on the Bethlehem Church Council, was a communion usher, served as a supervisor on the Bashaw Township Board, a past member of the Brown County Veteran's Council and a past member of the Brown County Planning and Zoning Board. Howard enjoyed a long retirement, traveling, keeping up with current events, pursuing his interests in history, daily trips to town for coffee, and spending time with his family. Howard was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife Connie of Comfrey; sons, Thomas (Judy) of Sleepy Eye and Lee of Cleveland; grandchildren, Adam and Anna Johnson; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivien and Olga Johnson and parents-in-law, Allan and Mae Hoverman.
