SAN ANTONIO, Texas - A welfare check on two J & R Schugel, Inc. truck drivers led police to the discovery of three bodies - a two men and a woman - in west San Antonio Thursday morning.
At 8 a.m. Thursday, San Antonio Police got a call from New Ulm Police requesting a welfare check at a home in the 9600 block of Vale Drive.
San Antonio Police were contacted Wednesday by J&R Schugel Human Resources Director Leah Shaver. She said a two-person truck driving team had not made contact with the trucking firm since March 9.
"We called San Antonio Police Wednesday who re-directed us back to New Ulm Police," Shaver said. "The two drivers who lived in San Antonio have driven for us for well more than a decade. That's all we know."
Arriving at the home, San Antonio police reported hearing the sound from a television, looked into a window and saw what appeared to be a dead man in a chair.
Investigators forced their way into the home, wearing protective masks. They found another dead man in a bedroom and a dead woman wrapped in a blanket in another room.
Investigators did not release the names of the deceased, but said the man in the chair was 76 years old, the woman was 67, and the other man was 45 years old.
Investigators found the older man sitting in a chair, facing the television, with a gunshot wound to the face, and a trail of blood from the dining room to the chair.
The woman had a gunshot wound to her head. The younger man was found dead from a gunshot wound in another bedroom, according to the San Antonio Express-News.
Investigators have not established a motive at the crime scene.
The older man apparently killed the other man and the woman using a .22 caliber rifle before turning the weapon on himself, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told the San Antonios Express-News.
Headquartered in New Ulm, J&R Schugel is a truckload carrier of general commodities with 600 truck drivers, 650 power units and about 1,050 trailers serving the 48 continental U.S. The company has terminals in New Ulm, Tomah, WI and Columbus, Ohio.
