Board to hold burning ordinance hearing

March 19, 2013
By Fritz Busch - Staff Writer , The Journal

NEW ULM - Brown County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10:15 a.m., today regarding a burn ordinance change that would no longer require permits to burn brush piles.

Those wishing to burn will still need to inform Brown County Sheriff Dispatch of their burn location prior to burning brush. Residents who wish to burn something other than brush piles would still need to obtain permits from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Forestry Office in New Ulm, a current requirement, according to the Request for Board Action (RBA).

Commissioners will also:

Consider a $1,783 open market offer by Roger D. Koske of South Lyon, Mich. to buy a 2001 former Brown County Family Services/Heartland Express bus declared as excess property for sale. The average appraised value of the bus was $2,150, but no bids were originally received.

It was decided that given the MinnBid administrative fee would be 10 percent of the auctioned sale price, it may be in the best interest of Family Services/Heartland Express to accept the offer.

View correspondence items including a letter to the county board from Steve Malone, PhD., CCA/CPAg. Supervisor of the State of Minnesota Seed & Noxious Weed Unit regarding the release of genetically-engineered plants in Brown County. The letter noted Monsanto Company releasing one acre of herbicide tolerant soybeans, cited in USDA File No. 12-2970107rm.

Review a letter from Minnesota Department of Human Services Commissioner Lucinda Jesson commending human services management and staff for perfect performance in meeting Department of Human Services (DHS) financial reporting requirements for calendar year 2012. All 32 key quarterly fiscal reports for county programs were made on or before deadlines and in perfect order

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. today in the courthouse commissioners room.
