To the editor:
In regard to your story about former U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) being confirmed by the U.S. Senate (2-27-2013), I want to thank The Journal for putting the article on the front page, on the top, and on the left side. I lived in Nebraska for 14 years and because of my involvement in politics (bother major parties), I got to know Chuck Hagel in 1996. He was campaigning for the U.S. Senate at that time. He won. Chuck is the kind of guy who tries to make friends with those who disagree with him on the issues. Also, I can tell you that I've got strong "gut feelings" that Hagel is fully qualified to be Pentagon head.
I'm a conservative political thinker, but I applaud the fact that all of the voting Democrats voted "Aye" to confirm Hagel (along with four thoughtful Republicans). I?can also applaud the Democrats for their constant support of AMTRAK inter city railroad passenger service. However, on the AMTRAK issue, Democrats can count on the support of several dozen Republicans in both houses of Congress.
