Heavy equipment is used Monday to demolish and salvage parts of the convent just north of the Church of St. Mary in Sleepy Eye. The convent was built of dark brown brick in 1920. It had a private chapel, living and working rooms, music rooms and nuns' living accommodations. The building was later used as an education center for art and religious education classes, day care, meetings, prayer groups, choral practice and storage.
